Artist Statement

Photography is a major part of today’s society and is viewed all around the world. People can relate to and connect with one another through photography. The work I do for photography includes multiple different art styles. Normally, a photographer would choose one main theme that they photograph, but I do multiple styles. I love doing portraits of people and animals, sunsets, object shots, and nature. The one that interests me the most would be nature photography, as I watched my main influencer post them. One of my main influences when it comes to photography is Walter Dorsett. I grew up watching every step he took to become the artist he is today. The main theme in my photography would be landscape, but I also like to experiment with portraits. Before I go to take a picture or in the moment, the subject is usually something I find interesting or cute. After I finish taking the photos, I upload them into an Adobe software, such as Photoshop, InDesign, or Lightroom, and play around with the lighting, contrast, and other features that enhance or emphasize the subject’s beauty. My main goal with photography is to share the natural beauty found in all things by capturing real and raw visuals. I feel like my work has gotten significantly better since going through and graduating with my Associates in Photography, obtained from Cecil College. I now understand what and how to use shutter speed, aperture, depth of field, etc.

Artist Bio

My name is Kayla Sexton. I produce photographs using all types of styles, such as nature, people, objects, and animals. When I am not at home, work, or college, I am at the park or being by myself, and I try to gather some inspiration on what moment I will photograph next. I was previously a student at Cecil College until May 2024, then I graduated with an Associate of Applied Science in Visual Communications – Photography Concentration. While in college, I learned how to use Adobe software such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and InDesign, to be able to edit photos and make them more unique. I have plans to transfer to a 4-year college to obtain my Bachelor’s in photography. I currently reside in Cecil County, Maryland, where I was born and raised. I am currently employed with Barksdale School Portraits, which is located in Aston, Pennsylvania. I had photographed a wedding in August 2024, being able to capture the most beautiful and raw moments for this couple.
